Monster Bash Chapter 1
“It's close to kick off and something evil's lurking on the field. Under the flood lights you see a sight that almost stops your heart. You try to scream, but terror takes the sound before you make it, you start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes, you're paralyzed and no one's gonna save you from the beast about to Blitz!
Once a year monsters, beasts and supernatural creatures rise from their dark places. They are drawn to the mayhem, destruction and carnage of one very special event. Banners are raised for the teams courageous enough to make the trip. Witches pull out and dust off their crystal balls, tuning into cabal vision so they do not miss the action. As is tradition, the scariest looking monsters, judged worthy, get to join their favourite team as a good luck charm. Hopefully inspiring their heroes on to glory and the trophy they all seek. For this is the Monster Bash”
Monty B Asher put everything on the line to set up the first Monster Bash. He just hoped it would work. On day one he walked out oof the tunnel and looked up. The stands were packed, there were monster mascots and a host of teams ready to play. He breathed out and stepped onto the field.
Monster Bash Chapter 2: The Wrath of Peo
After all the months of planning, hard work and praying to Nuffle, Monty B Asher was ecstatic to find that his event, Monster Bash, was a massive hit! He was overwhelmed with the amount of teams which attended and the amount of fans which bought tickets to watch the games. (He was really happy about that part) The games were spectacular with monsters, from far and wide, watching and taking part. It could not have gone better. Or so he thought.
As the tournament progressed and more and more fans turned up to watch the spectacle that was unfolding, the excitement hit fever pitch. However, something unexpected happened. The cheers and yells that accompanied the matches became so loud that they formed a wall of sound which was magnified by the championship stadium and projected into the atmosphere. For weeks the noise travelled out through the star system, bouncing off a small moon before catapulting around Mars. Finally the solid wall of noise smashed into a small planetoid which, sadly, was not paying attention. Hitting the rocky surface the noise displaced the small globe from its orbit and sent it careering through the solar system towards the old world.
One night a few months after Monster Bash had ended, the giant Peo the Great (He gave himself the nickname), the mercenary giant who had guided the Yudlugar Gobbos to victory, stepped out of his cave and looked up into the sky. Being so tall he had always managed to get a good view of the stars. Towering over most dwellings and trees, very little got in his way. He enjoyed the peace as he watched them dance, hundreds and hundreds of little pin pricks in the soft blanket of night. Strangely the view seemed different tonight. There seemed to be a large round space where the stars used to be. The circle of darkness also seemed to be getting wider as he stood gazing upwards. Unable to take his eyes from the strange occurence.
“Isn’t that strange.” He thought. “It’s like like the sky was getting closer.”
That was the last thought to ever pass through Peo’s mind. The last physical thing to pass through his mind however was the small planetoid which was knocked out of orbit by the cheers he created leading his team to victory at Monster Bash.
The impact of the planetoid shook the whole continent. Hundreds of locals were raised from their beds (and crypts) to come rushing to see what the disturbance was. As they arrived they found hundreds of strange looking aliens exiting the planetoid. Some crawling, some slithering and even some who seemed to be hopping (But we are not able to officially confirm that).
Monty B Asher saw his chance. Leaping up onto a rock he addressed the gathered crowd, shouting at them like a monster possessed.
“It is a sign, praise be to Nuffle a sign, for he has brought forth more luck for the next Monster Bash!”
“Wasn’t lucky for Peo the Great.” yelled a monster at the back of the crowd.
“No” said Monty with a huge toothy grin crossing his face “It is for his opponents though innit.”
Monster Bash Chapter 3: Beyond Fumbledome
Monty B Asher, the organiser of Monster Bash, closed his eyes and slumped back into his favourite arm chair exhausted. Monster Bash had been a much larger success this year than he could have hoped. The inclusion of the aliens had brought teams from far and wide to compete and even its prestige had even convinced a real life lord to turn up. It had to be something special to make such a well known star player go against Morgs warning about playing in the event. He was a true star player as well, managing to take an unknown bunch of chaos renegades all the way to the final. Backed up by the head coach, Pillowfists, tactical knowledge and a truly undervalued ability to get the best out of his monsters. The renegades team smashed its way through the opposition and took the trophy in true style. Monty was happy, in fact, he couldn’t be happier. Now he just needed to rest. There was no hope of that as a loud banging suddenly rang out from the door ripping apart Monty’s peace and quiet.
“What!” he yelled, clearly annoyed at being disturbed.
“Monty, we got trouble! We need you!” It was Harry, a large hairy monster who was Monty’s right hand guy. “its the aliens Monty, they've started to invade.”
Monty’s eyes tore open as he leapt out of his chair and ran to the door flinging it open. As it opened he could see in the distance some circular saucer like flying disks circling the area. They had domes on the top and banners streaming out the back with “Go Pillowfists” written on them. Bright red lights were firing from the disks causing explosions on the ground where they hit. A lot of the buildings were already on fire and smoke was billowing into the sky.
“It’s an invasion, apparently a couple of the ones who came down on the asteroid phoned home, whatever that means, and they came to get them. There was a bit of a misunderstanding as to which team they supported and well.” Harry nodded at the scenes unfolding behind him. “We need to get out of here.”
“Right” replied Monty, unable to take his eyes off destruction in the distance. “Grab the carts, all of them, get everyone loaded up and we’ll get to safety.”
Harry nodded, then turned and ran off. Monty ripped his eyes from the devastation and closed the door. He spent a few moments grabbing everything he could before running outside to find Harry. By this time all the monsters had been gathered and a convoy of wagons, carts and even some sportier models were lined up as far as the eye could see. Some of the larger monsters were helping to pull some of the vehicles as they would clearly make better time. In the background the sky had turned red due to the wanton destruction the alien ships were causing. A tear trickled down from Monty’s eye before he wiped it away, acerted himself and jumped into the front wagon.
“Where we headed Monty?” asked Harry.
Looking back at his home Monty contemplated the question.
“Looks like we don’t have much choice, it has to be the wastes.”
“Not much of an improvement.” grunted Harry
“Lets drive.” Said Monty and the convoy began to pull away.
By the next morning the convoy had travelled far enough so that the monsters began to feel safe again. Monty knew they still needed to find somewhere that they could now call home but at least they weren’t being chased. Looking at the motley crew he’d assembled he scanned the vehicles and the monsters contained in each. He knew most by name and all by face. They were his people and he knew he would do anything for them.
“Hang on,” He said turning to Harry “Where's the lord gone?”
“Oh, Borat or whatever he was called? Yeah, he’s not here. By all accounts he was abducted. The saucers came down, there was some probing and....”
But Monty had stopped listening, a dust cloud had risen from both sides of the convoy and as he looked out he could see all sorts of vehicles, from pump wagons, skaven death wheels and dwarven rollers now seemed to be escorting the convoy on both sides. The dust had got thicker due to the extra vehicles but it seemed to clear slightly as Monty saw what looked like a large town emerging from the dust in front of him. The buildings were quite large but they were dwarfed in comparison by the dome which towered over the encampment. The convoy, guided by their unwanted escort, pulled up to the front of the town and came to a stop raising a dust cloud that covered everything in sight. As the dust settled Monty saw they were surrounded on all sides by gangways and towers. Stood on the buildings were hundreds of people of all different races. Skaven, humans, Dwarfs, Elves, Goblins and Orcs to name a few peered out at him from the safety of the town. But there was something different about them he just couldn’t figure out what it was. As he was trying to work it out a figure approached, they were hooded and cloaked in leather, no doubt that was to keep out the dust from the wastes. As they got closer they pulled back the hood. Monty saw it was a woman, tall, dark and beautiful. Her silver hair standing behind her like a lions mane. Monty was lost for words as he saw her approach.
“My name is Turner Tina.” She said “I run this town. Why are you here?”
“Sorry but what is this place?” Asked Monty.
“What is this place?” Turner yelled at the crowd who begant to loudly jeer and yell. “What is this place?” She yelled again “This place is Blood Bowl Town, the home of the Fumbledome.”
The crowd erupted in cheers. Monty looked around the crowd.
“The Fumbledome?” he asked, his tone doing nothing to mask his confusion.
“The Fumbledome.” Turner responded, “Two teams enter, one team leaves.”
The crowd began to cheer after this comment. Turner walked closer to the cart and stroked one of the animals that were pulling the vehicle before looking up into Monty’s eye.
“People come here to play, score a few touch downs, cause a few cas. If you cannot play, you've got no business in Blood Bowl Town.”
As Turner moved her cloak swayed to the side and Monty noticed she had an extra arm concealed beneath it holding a weapon. At which point he realised what it was that was different about the people in the crowd. Nearly everyone here was a mutant. They all had horns, big hands and even two heads. Monty began to laugh. Turner looked at the small monster sat on the cart with a quizzical look.
“Well, whats so funny little man, can you play?”
“Can we play?” Monty said as he looked around the crowd again. Then, knowing what to do next he leant forward just inches from Turners face “Have you ever heard of Monster Bash?”
Monster Bash Chapter 4: Dodge Free or Block Hard
Monty stood at the top of the Fumbledome looking out into the wastes. He felt content, happy with the overall outcome. The monsters had managed to dominate the event with Don Vito and his horrible Snotlings taking the top spot. True, they had a rather dark goblin (who Monty didn't trust) helping them out, but all in all it had been a great event. The Fumbledome had been filled to the top with monsters and mutants cheering on their favourite teams. MAybe this could work, maybe the monsters had finally found a home.
Monty heard the noise of feet behind him. Turning he saw that Turner Tina and a large gathering of the mutants were looking at him and they did not look happy. In fact the populace of Blood Bowl Town seemed, by his uneducated mind, what seemed to be an angry mob.
"Great" said Monty "Here we go again."
